# Privacy Policy

**Last updated: 2 November 2026**

This policy explains what happens to information when you visit **dotheygobad.com** (the "Site"). It covers what is collected, why, how long it is kept, who else is involved, and what you can ask us to do about it.

---

## 1. Who we are

The Site is published by DoTheyGoBad ("we", "us"). For any question about this policy or about your data, contact **martin@dinweys.com**.

The Site is a free, advertising-supported reference work. It has no user accounts, no login, no checkout and no comment system.

## 2. What is collected

### a. Information you give us

The only way to send us personal information is to email us. If you do, we receive your email address, your name if you sign it, and whatever you write. We use it to answer you and for nothing else.

### b. Information collected automatically

Like any website, the Site receives technical data when a page is requested:

- IP address (processed by our host and CDN to deliver the page and filter abuse)
- browser type and version, operating system, device type
- the page requested, the referring page, and the time of the request
- country-level location derived from the IP address

We do not build profiles from this data, and we do not attempt to identify individual readers.

### c. Advertising data

Advertising on the Site is served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners may set cookies and collect data through the ad units and the AdSense loader, as described in section 4.

## 3. Cookies

Cookies are small files a site or its partners store in your browser.

| Category | What it does | Set by | Can you refuse? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essential | Delivers the page, keeps the site working, filters abusive traffic | Our host / CDN | No — the site cannot function without them |
| Advertising | Selects and measures ads, limits repeat impressions, records ad interactions | Google AdSense and its partners | Yes, via browser settings or the opt-outs in section 4 |
| Preference | Remembers interface choices such as light/dark theme | This site (stored locally in your browser) | Yes, by clearing site data |

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time. Blocking advertising cookies does not stop ads from appearing; it makes them non-personalised.

Where the law requires consent before advertising cookies are set — in the EEA and the UK, for example — that consent is collected through the consent message shown on the Site.

## 4. Advertising

The Site is free to read and is funded in part by advertising served through **Google AdSense**.

- **Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.**
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this Site and/or other sites on the internet.
- Google uses the **DoubleClick** cookie and similar technologies for this purpose.

You can control this:

- Opt out of personalised advertising at [Google Ads Settings](https://adssettings.google.com/).
- Opt out of third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at [aboutads.info](https://www.aboutads.info/choices/) or [youronlinechoices.eu](https://www.youronlinechoices.eu/).
- Read how Google uses information from sites that use its services: [policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites](https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites).

We do not receive your name, email address or any other directly identifying information from Google as part of this advertising. We see aggregate reports — impressions, clicks, estimated revenue, country and device breakdowns.

Advertising is selected automatically. We do not choose individual ads, and an ad appearing next to an article is not an endorsement of the advertised product.

## 5. Analytics and search data

We use **Google Search Console** to see how the Site performs in Google Search — which queries bring visitors, which pages are indexed, and whether anything is broken. Search Console reports are aggregated; they show us queries and page URLs, not who searched.

If web analytics is enabled in the future, this policy will name the tool before it goes live. As of the date at the top of this page, the Site does not run a page-level analytics script beyond the AdSense loader described above.

## 6. Legal bases (EEA and UK visitors)

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on:

| Purpose | Legal basis |
|---|---|
| Delivering pages and keeping the Site secure | Legitimate interests (operating a functional website) |
| Responding to your email | Legitimate interests, or your consent where you have given it |
| Non-personalised advertising and aggregate measurement | Legitimate interests |
| Personalised advertising and advertising cookies | **Consent** |
| Compliance with legal obligations | Legal obligation |

You can withdraw consent at any time through the consent message or your browser settings; withdrawal does not affect processing that already took place.

## 7. How long information is kept

| Data | Retention |
|---|---|
| Emails you send us | Until the matter is resolved, then up to 24 months for reference |
| Server and CDN request logs | Short-lived, as configured by our host — typically days, not months |
| Aggregate search and advertising reports | Up to 26 months |
| Cookies in your browser | Per cookie lifetime, or until you clear them |

## 8. Who else is involved

We do not sell, rent or trade personal information. Data reaches third parties only in these ways:

- **Cloudflare** — hosting, CDN and security. Processes request data to serve pages and block abuse.
- **Google** — AdSense (advertising) and Search Console (search performance). Governed by Google's own privacy policy.
- **Email provider** — processes messages sent to martin@dinweys.com.
- **Authorities** — where we are legally required to disclose.

Each provider processes data under its own terms; we choose providers that publish a privacy policy and offer data processing terms.

## 9. International transfers

The Site is operated from China and served through a global CDN. Our providers, including Google and Cloudflare, process data in multiple countries, including the United States. Where data protected by the GDPR leaves the EEA or the UK, transfers rely on the providers' standard contractual clauses or an applicable adequacy decision.

## 10. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

- **access** the personal data we hold about you;
- **correct** data that is inaccurate;
- **delete** data we no longer need;
- **restrict** or **object to** processing, including direct marketing;
- **portability** — receive your data in a machine-readable format;
- **withdraw consent** where processing is based on consent;
- **complain** to a supervisory authority in your country.

California residents (CCPA/CPRA) additionally have the right to know what categories of personal information are collected, to request deletion, to correct inaccurate information, and not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by the CPRA.

To exercise any right, email **martin@dinweys.com** with enough detail for us to identify the request. We answer within 30 days. We may ask you to confirm you control the email address the request came from. There is no charge.

## 11. Children

The Site is written for adults working with or studying food science. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

## 12. Security

The Site is served over HTTPS. Access to the email inbox and to publishing credentials is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, and no transmission over the internet can be guaranteed.

## 13. Changes to this policy

This policy is reviewed when the Site's tooling changes. The version published here is always the current one, with the date shown at the top. Material changes will be noted on this page.

## 14. Contact and complaints

**Email:** martin@dinweys.com

We answer privacy requests within 30 days. If you are in the EEA or the UK and are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to your national data protection authority.
