Terms of Use¶
Last updated: 2 November 2026
These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of dotheygobad.com (the "Site"), a food-science reference published by DoTheyGoBad ("we", "our", "us"). By using the Site you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please stop using the Site.
1. What this site is¶
The Site publishes explanatory articles about food spoilage, shelf life and preservation — the chemistry, microbiology and process engineering behind why foods deteriorate and how storage conditions change that.
The Site is a reference work, not a service. It does not sell food, does not test your product, and does not provide consulting, laboratory analysis or certification.
2. Not professional or food-safety advice¶
Nothing on the Site is professional advice, and it is not a substitute for:
- a laboratory result on an actual sample;
- a validated shelf-life study for a specific product and package;
- the judgement of a qualified food safety professional;
- any regulation, standard or guidance issued by a competent authority in your market.
Food spoilage and pathogen growth depend on the specific product, formulation, water activity, pH, packaging, storage temperature and handling. An article that describes a general mechanism cannot tell you whether a particular batch is safe. Decisions about whether food is safe to eat, sell or distribute are yours.
Where the Site mentions a standard or a regulatory limit, the published standard or the authority's current text governs.
3. Permitted use and intellectual property¶
The text, structure, tables, illustrations and calculators on the Site are the property of DoTheyGoBad unless stated otherwise, and are protected by copyright.
You may:
- read, quote and link to the Site;
- print or save individual pages for personal, non-commercial use;
- cite articles with attribution and a link to the source page.
You may not, without prior written permission:
- republish substantial portions of the Site, whether on a website, in a book, in a course or in a paid product;
- mirror or frame the Site;
- run bulk automated harvesting of the Site's content;
- present the content as your own work.
Short quotation with attribution is welcome; wholesale copying is not. Requests for reuse: [email protected].
4. Accuracy, updates and corrections¶
We aim for accuracy and cite the underlying science where a claim is contestable. Articles are reviewed and revised over time; the "last updated" information on a page reflects the most recent substantive revision.
We do not warrant that the Site is complete, current on every regulatory change, or free of error. If you find an error, tell us and we will review it.
5. Tools and calculators¶
The Site includes calculators such as the NRV (nutrient reference value) calculator and the water-safety risk calculator. These produce estimates from the inputs you supply, using published reference values.
They are educational aids. They do not measure your product, do not account for every variable in a real process, and must not be used as the sole basis for a safety, labelling or compliance decision. Always verify against the applicable regulation and your own analytical data.
6. Advertising and third-party content¶
The Site is free to read and is funded in part by advertising.
- Advertising is served by Google AdSense and its partners. Ad selection is automated; we do not choose, endorse or verify individual advertisements, and an advertisement appearing next to an article is not an endorsement of the advertised product.
- Advertising partners may use cookies or similar technologies to serve and measure ads. What this means, and how to opt out, is set out in our Privacy Policy and in Google's Ads Settings.
- We do not control third-party sites reached through advertisements or through links in articles, and we are not responsible for their content or practices.
7. Acceptable use¶
You agree not to:
- use the Site in a way that breaks applicable law;
- attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Site, its servers or any related system;
- interfere with the Site's operation, including through automated requests that degrade performance;
- misrepresent the Site's content as professional advice, a test report or a regulatory determination;
- use the Site's name or content in a way that suggests endorsement of your product or service.
8. Disclaimer of warranties¶
The Site is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or uninterrupted availability.
9. Limitation of liability¶
To the fullest extent permitted by law, DoTheyGoBad is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Site — including lost profit, lost production, product recall costs or business interruption.
Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
10. Changes to these Terms¶
We may update these Terms as the Site evolves. The current version is always on this page, with the date shown at the top. Continued use of the Site after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
11. Governing law¶
These Terms are governed by the laws applicable at the operator's place of business. Disputes are subject to the competent courts there, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer protection rights you have where you live.
